French Bread

1 1/4 cups warm water
1 tablespoon sugar
1/2 tablespoon salt
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
3 cups flour
1 tablespoon dry yeast
(cornmeal for dusting baking sheet)

Pour warm water into a large mixing bowl. Stir in sugar, salt, oil, half the flour, and the yeast. Beat vigorously for 2-3 minutes. Stir in remaining flour until all dry ingredients are incorporated. Allow the dough to rest for 10 minutes then stir down. Allow the dough to rest for another 10 minutes and then stir down again. Repeat this process until the dough has been stirred down 5 times. (This is super easy to do with a KitchenAid) Turn dough onto a floured surface and roll it out until it is approximately 9x12 inches. Roll it up starting from the long side and pinch the ends to seal Arrange the loaf on a cookie sheet that has been dusted with cornmeal and cover lightly. Let it rise for 30 minutes. Use a sharp knife and cut 3 diagonal slashes on the loaf. If you want to be fancy you can brush the top with a beaten egg and sprinkle sesame seeds on it. Bake immediately at 400 degrees for 20-30 minutes or until golden brown.

Hi Jana! Most of my latest new recipes, including the banana chocolate chip bread, come from cuisine nie, http://cuisinenie.blogspot.com/.
I highly suggest it. We have had the banana bread, the whole wheat spaghettie with garlic, zuchini (thank you again) and tomato, the whole wheat pasta mixed with argula (chicken added), and the organic tomato soup. I intend to try even more. Check it out!
