Cream of Tomato Soup

This is my aunt Laurie's recipe that she got from a friend. I love the fact that recipes are tried and passed around and become your own. ...served with French bread and a delicious salad, this soup tops my list of "Favorite Things"
1/4 c. butter
2 T olive oil
2 c. diced onions
1/2 tsp. dry thyme
1/2 tsp. dry basil
salt and pepper to taste
*sauté until onions are tender

Add 1 large can of crushed tomatoes
and 3 T tomato paste to above mixture
*simmer for 10 minutes

Add two cups of chicken broth
*add a couple tablespoons of flour if you want it thicker.

Process in cuisinart for a smoother texture
Add 1 pint half and half before serving.
