I guess I'm on a "Greek kick" but I just love the intense flavors! Last night we went to the Farmer's Market and spent some time tasting all different flavors or hummus. I bought two different kinds but had to experiment making some on my own. I started with a basic hummus recipe and then started adding our favorite ingredients for some variations. Here's a few to try-
Basic Hummus:
1 can garbonzo beans-drained; reserve some of the liquid if needed to thin the consistency
1/4 tahini paste (ground sesame seeds-found at most local supermarkets)
juice of one lemon
1/4 cup olive oil
2+ cloves garlic
1/2 tsp. sea salt
1/2 tsp pepper
Put all ingredients in a food processor. Blend until very smooth. Thin to desired consistency.
Serve with pita triangles or other yummy bread or raw vegetables.
Some variations:
add several canned roasted red bell peppers
-or-
add 1 can black beans and chipotle pepper
-or-
add one large, ripe avacado
